The Rise of #RushTok
Sorority recruitment has always been a defining part of campus life, but in recent years, it’s taken on a new kind of energy. Thanks to TikTok, “rush” is no longer just something you experience, it’s something you share. The result is #RushTok, a growing online space where Potential New Members (PNMs) and sorority sisters showcase creativity, personality, and community.
From get ready with me videos to themed outfit reveals, the visual appeal of rush content draws viewers in immediately. Bright colors, coordinated styles, and group dances give a glimpse into the excitement of the week. But beyond the aesthetics, these posts give a more personal look at what recruitment feels like.
Rather than changing the purpose of recruitment, social media has expanded how it’s experienced. PNMs can connect with others going through the same process, exchange advice, and feel a sense of belonging before even stepping into a house. For many, watching #RushTok helps ease nerves and build confidence.
“We always tell PNMs to just be themselves. Social media can be exciting, but at the end of the day it’s about finding where you feel comfortable and supported.” Says Alpha Phi chapter president Sharlize Moyeadi. She is the face of several videos crossing the for you pages of potential new members.
Sororities are also using these platforms to highlight their values and sisterhood. Videos often feature behind-the-scenes moments, from late-night prep to group practices, showing the effort and teamwork that go into recruitment. This added transparency helps make the process more approachable.
Importantly, the sources of these social media posts, primarily TikTok accounts from PNMs and active members, provide firsthand perspectives. This ensures that the content reflects real experiences rather than outside assumptions.

Ultimately, the rise of #RushTok highlights what has always been at the heart of recruitment: connection. While the format may be evolving, the goal remains the same, helping students find a place where they feel at home.
